The original Barnton Youth Football Club was formed in 2001 to provide a local facility to get kids of all ages involved in football. Football first started as a Sunday training session to recruit players, and from there 2 teams, Under 8s  and Under 10s, were entered into the Mid Cheshire League for the 2002/03 season. The club has expanded season on season from that initial start to currently having 11 boys' teams in age groups from Minnows and Under 6s to Under 18s.

2 girls' teams were formed for the 2003/04 season, and since then we have been able to form girls' teams in most seasons. However, due to a shortage of players the girls are "taking a break" for the 2012-13 season, but we are hoping to run teams again next year.

Barnton YFC were awarded the FA Charter Standard in 2004, renewed in 2007 and were awarded the FA Charter Development club status in 2009.

The club were presented with their award on Thursday 4 March 2010 at Cheshire County FA, and were honoured by 1966 World Cup Winner Gordon Banks, and Cheshire County FA Director and Football Development Committee Chairman Terry Harrop.

The club has since been awarded the FA Charter Community Club status, in December 2010. This is the highest level that can be achieved by a club like ours and demonstrates that we follow the FA's best practice guide for coaching, administration and child protection. If you would like to understand more about the FA Charter Standard Scheme, please visit the FA website here.

Barnton Wanderers Football Club

The new Barnton Wanderers name and change of colours (from black & white to blue & white) has evolved from a desire to offer a route into open-age football for our youth players, which has required us to differentiate ourselves from the Barnton FC open-age team. Other than the name and colour change, we are still the same set-up, with a committee and coaching and management staff who are committed to development of youth football in this area. Following a unanimous decision at the 2012 AGM, a merger was implemented between BWYFC and the open age teams to form Barnton Wanderers Football Club.

We have ambitious plans for the future, including initial discussions about improved playing and changing facilities at our Barnton home, subject to the availability of funding. For details about other aims and plans, please see our Development Vision for 2010-2016.
